The U.S. Embassy in Nicaragua advises U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Nicaragua that large numbers of political protestors have gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Managua, Nicaragua.  As a result, the U.S. Embassy has suspended all routine consular services for the afternoon of Thursday, October 29, 2009. 

 

These anti-U.S. protests may continue for several days, and have the potential to turn violent.  Protestors have thrown bottles and other objects, and launched explosive “morteros” at the Embassy.  Local police thus far have made little effort to control these demonstrations.  U.S. citizens considering visiting the U.S. Embassy should monitor the situation via media sources, including TV and radio when possible, and via the internet.  Any updates on the situation will be posted on the U.S. Embassy’s website:  http://nicaragua.usembassy.gov/travel_warnings.html.
