Warden Message: Expected Rio de Janeiro Traffic Disruption Oct. 2

U.S. Consulate Rio de Janeiro issued the following Warden Message on October 1:

This Warden Message is to alert American Citizens living or traveling in Rio de Janeiro to expect extensive disruption of traffic in the Copacabana area beginning on October 2, 2009.  On October 2, 2009 Brazilian officials estimate that over 500,000 people will gather to hear the International Olympic Games Committee announce the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games.  The announcement is scheduled to be made at 1:30pm on Friday. 

Municipal authorities have declared the day a public holiday, so some government offices and businesses may be closed.
